The workshop is participated by representatives from Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Ministry of Education and Planning, Hanoi’s People Committee, kindergartens and primary schools in Hanoi.

In particular, a detailed report on the results of Hanoi School Recycling program for the school year 2019-2020 and proposal for the school year of 2020 – 2021; such models for green schools and environmental education as the scheme of Green school for clean air within the program of “Roads to School”, the self-disciplined model for pupils under the School Recycling Program; the Clean n’ Green project with a view to transforming schoolchildren’s awareness, behaviour and establishing green lifestyle at schools and households, etc. are presented at the workshop.

In order to encourage environmental initiatives, 35 excellent schools of the School Recycling Program and six schools that demonstrate the best practice of building a green school for clean air during the school year of 2019 – 2020 are honoured at the workshop as well.

Amongst the environmental initiatives presented at the workshop, School Recycling is known as a joint-initiative between Tetra Pak, related authorities and organizations that was piloted in 2017 and put into practice on a large scale since the school year of 2019 – 2020. Despite suffering a nearly half-year discontinuity due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program succeeded to collect the volume of 269 ton cartons, equivalent to roughly 27 million cartons.

In the school year of 2020 – 2021, the program is expanded to twice as many schools as in the previous year, to benefit 1,600 primary schools and kindergartens. Participating in this year’s programme, schoolchildren continue to be instructed on the simple steps of unfolding the four corners of used cartons, flattening them, sticking covers on carton openings and placing them into dustbins for collection. The used packages are then collected every two weeks by LAGOM and transported to Dong Tien Paper Factory to become materials for the production of useful products such as notebooks, bio-roof panels, and others.

“Environmental education at kindergartens and primary schools goes beyond helping schoolchildren to preserve environment at school and household. It enables us to nurture a future generation that is environment-conscious. This is why we highly appreciate Tetra Pak’s School Recycling and expect the program to be expanded to more and more schools to further benefit the community,” said a representative from Hanoi’s Department of Education and Training.
