Tetra Pak cooperates with domestic partners to promote collection and recycling of used beverage cartons in the North of Vietnam
Tetra Pak – a food processing and packaging solution provider from Sweden has signed a partnership agreement with Biopa Paper Technology JSC (Biopa) and Van Diem Paper JSC (Van Diem) to take the lead in used beverage carton collecting and recycling in the North of Vietnam.
This partnership marks an important milestone for Tetra Pak, as the company strives to expand its partnerships with recyclers to develop used beverage carton recycling and collection infrastructure in the Northern region. Prior to this agreement, used beverage cartons, after being collected in the North, had to be transported to the South for recycling by two partners in the used beverage carton collection network of Tetra Pak.
This expansion will better support the food and beverage industry in achieving its sustainability goals.
Van Diem is an organsation recycling used beverage cartons, Biopa is a company to organize and manage the purchase of used beverage carton in the North of Vietnam.
According to the new signed agreement, Van Diem will be the organisation to recycle used beverage carton, and Biopa will be a company to organize and manage the purchase of used beverage carton in the North of Vietnam. It is expected that in 2023, Biopa and Van Diem will collect and recycle about 800 tons of used beverage carton and gradually increase to 3,000 tons / year from 2025.
“Tetra Pak's cartons help provide safe, nutritious food to millions of consumers, but it also puts a responsibility on us and the manufacturers to keep the entire used beverage cartons will be collected and recycled to save natural resources and protect the environment,” said Mr. Eliseo Barcas, Managing Director of Tetra Pak Vietnam.
“To realize large-scale, widespread collection and recycling requires the extensive involvement of all stakeholders such as manufacturers, collectors, recyclers, consumers and governing bodies, etc. That's why Tetra Pak is constantly looking for new partners to raise awareness and establish an infrastructure for collecting used beverage cartons in Vietnam," added Mr. Eliseo.
“We will build and maintain the collection of used beverage cartons in the northern provinces and cities through Biopa's existing network as well as continuously expanding new collection points in industrial parks, apartment buildings and other key areas”, shared Mr. Phan Cong Bang, Director of Biopa. “Through this tripartite partnership agreement, we hope to make it easier for people to access used beverage carton collection points, thereby increasing the recycling rate of used beverage carton in Vietnam.”
Mr. Le Manh Anh, Deputy General Director of Van Diem emphasized: “The used beverage cartons can be recycled into many useful products such as notebooks, eco-roof… Cooperating with Tetra Pak and Biopa will allow us to ensure a steady and efficient supply of cartons.”
Not only cooperating with collectors and recyclers, Tetra Pak also works with retailers and partners to constantly expand the network of used beverage carton collection in the community.
