Tetra Pak won EuroCham’s Award for Best Sustainable Business Initiatives

At European Chamber of Commerce’s (EuroCham) Gala Dinner and Business Awards on October 25th 2019, Tetra Pak - the Sweden-based food processing and packaging solution provider was presented with the award for Best Sustainable Business Initiatives by the Chamber to recognize its sustainable work in Vietnam.

Amongst a variety of European businesses entering the competition for Best Sustainable Business Initiatives, Tetra Pak won EuroCham’s award for its very efforts in minizing environmental foot print of its operations and developing fully recyclable carton packaging as well as leading the way to circular economy.

In particular, Tetra Pak ultimately wants no cartons to end up as litter or in landfill. Following the success of School Recycling 2017 piloted at 30 kindergartens in Ho Chi Minh City, Tetra Pak is expanding the carton packaging collection campaign to roughly 1,000 primary schools in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City this year with a view to raising pupils’ awareness of environmental protection.

Apart from partnering with local recyclers, the Company is actively engaged with community organizations to establish and expand the chain of public drop-off stations so that consumers can bring their used cartons for collecting and recycling. Tetra Pak currently holds a network of 22 drop-off stations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

In addition, Tetra Pak and eight flagship consumer goods and packaging companies aligned to form a new recycling initiative called Packaging Recycling Organization Vietnam (PRO Vietnam) to drive the circular economy and ensure packaging recycling is more accessible and sustainable across Vietnam.

Tetra Pak’s carton packages are made from Forest Stewardship Council certified cartons. The Company has recently started field testing paper straws for beverage products in Europe, becoming “the first carton packaging company” to launch paper straws in the region.

Going forward, Tetra Pak is making good progress to reach a 42 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Similarly, it proceeds to achieving the commitment to 100% renewable electricity for operations by 2030. In Vietnam, Tetra Pak is strongly committed to faciliating circular economy and making food safe and available for all while protecting the green planet for future generations.
