Tetra Pak Vietnam in collaboration with Binh Duong Provincial Youth Union, Ha Tam Trading – Service – Environment Company Limited held the School Recycling Competition “Gather the Packaging in Binh Duong” which took place from April 1st to May 15th 2024 with two main contests namely “Reviving used beverage cartons” and “Beautiful Collection Corner” intended for all schools across the province. The competition has found three district-level champions and 21 school-level champions based on the total volume of cartons collected during the competition. Another six prizes were awarded to Best Voted School for their collection corners and five awards of Green – Clean – Beautiful Corner have been presented to those with highest scores by the Judges Committee. The competition ended with 9,489 kgs of used cartons collected, which is equivalent to about 1.2 million carton packages, contributing to instilling the habit of collecting and classifying used cartons among Binh Duong’s young students and their families.
“Binh Duong, where our packaging material production facility is based, has the School Recycling Program extended to schools across the province since August 2023. We organize the competition to encourage school pupils and their families to develop the habit of cartons collection and sorting, thereby increasing the quantity of recycled cartons, contributing to environmental preservation and aiming for a circular economy we are in pursuit of,” said Ms. Thu Luong Thanh, Sustainability Manager, Tetra Pak Vietnam. “This competition would set a foundation for us to further expand carton collecting and classifying in Binh Duong,” highlighted Ms. Thu Luong Thanh.
“Beverage cartons sorting and recycling has contributed to educating children about environmental protection awareness, adding a meaningful way to implement our "Small Plan" movement under Project No. 2 of the Provincial Party Committee on mass mobilization to build a cultural and civilized lifestyle in Binh Duong province. The Provincial Youth Union will continue to coordinate with Binh Duong’s Education and Training Department to promote this activity in the next school years and set an example for other provinces and localities to learn from," shared Mr. Le Tuan Anh, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, Chairman of Binh Duong Provincial Pioneer Union.
On April 1st, 2024, the two contests - "Reviving Beverage Cartons" and "Clean and Beautiful Collection Corner" were officially launched to bring useful knowledge for teachers to apply in practice, educating the Pioneers and schoolchildren about environmental protection, assisting them in understanding further about the importance of collecting and recycling beverage cartons. This brings dual benefits in the sense that it contributes to reducing the amount of waste released into the environment while helping to lessen wasted natural resources by reusing materials to turn waste into useful items.
As one of the champions of the program, Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyen, Head of Young Pioneers’ Organization of Tan Dong Hiep Primary School commented “Our school always incorporates content about collecting and sorting waste with teaching life skills to our students. Therefore, we highly appreciate the spread and effectiveness of the School Recycling Competition as we have noticed a significant change in the students' awareness and habits regarding folding and flattening used beverage cartons for recycling. We hope meaningful activities like this will continue to be implemented and further promoted in the future.”
The list of champions of the Contest is announced on the website www.taichevohopgiay.com and the official page of Binh Duong Provincial Youth Council. The positive results achieved from the Contest will serve as a foundation for Tetra Pak Vietnam to continue collaborating with partners to extensively implement the program in all schools across Binh Duong province.
Previously, Tetra Pak Vietnam collaborated with partners to implement used beverage cartons school recycling programs in over 2,000 schools in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, achieving many positive results. Expanding the program to Binh Duong, where Tetra Pak's production facility is located, not only serves as a meaningful activity to commemorate Tetra Pak's 30th anniversary in Vietnam but also contributes to the company's focus on driving circular solutions.
